Reading Books

The children will be sent home with two reading books. One of the books will be matched to their reading progression level and the other one will be purely to develop a love for reading.

Mr Commander's Class Page

Hello and welcome to our Year 2 class page.

Over the course of this half-term, our Talk 4 Writing focus will be based around a newspaper article and a letter. The children will spend time internalising the texts before innovating their own versions to develop their writing skills. We are working hard on developing our understanding of key terms, such as, purpose and genre. The children are continuing to develop their independent writing skills and are earning lots of diamond power along the way.

In maths, we are developing our knowledge of shapes and fractions. We have been working hard on our understanding of the properties of 2 and 3D shapes. More recently, we have moved onto developing our understanding of fractions looking at 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4.

Our SPaG work is focussed around developing our understanding of suffixes and adverbs. The children have been working extremely hard with developing their skills and are transferring these skills into their independent writing.

On a Wednesday afternoon, we have our PE lessons. This half-term we are working with Joe from Premier Education to develop our skills around hit, catch and run. We are then implementing these skills into team games.

Our favourite part of the week, is Wednesday afternoons when we have our D.E.A.R sessions (Drop Everything and Read). This is a chance for the class to vote for their favourite text which we then share as a class. Alongside this, over the week, the children choose to share stories with the rest of the class at the end of the day.

As a class, we are exploring 'Gem Powers'. The children are working hard on their independence skills (Diamond Power), supporting others around them (Ruby Power) and learning how to bounce back from their mistakes (Emerald Power).

Welcome to Year 2!
