Welcome to Ruby Class!

Hello and welcome to Mr Schofield's class page! Our class is called the Ruby Class!

We love learning through our independent discovery time. We love having creative provision to explore. We have Maths, Phonics, Construction and Small World choosing shelves to promote independence and choice. We have a sand and water area in our classroom. We also love our creative station and our focus activities on our tables. We also love our role play corner which changes to what we are interested in! There is a calm corner to explore our feelings and a reading den to have some quiet reading time. We are very lucky that our outdoor classroom was completed last year, we love our new Ruby garden! Our EYFS outdoor area is also really fun to explore!

In Autumn 1, we had lots of fun getting to know each other and exploring the topic 'All About Me'. We settled into our rules and routines and getting to know our new school environment. 

In Autumn 2 we started our Talk 4 Writing with Supertato! We moved onto learning all about people who help us and then we started a 2 week Talk 4 writing block of the Gingerbread Man. We loved performing in our nativity and learning all about Christmas. 

In Spring 1, we explored the topic of Space and focussed on the story 'Whatever Next'. We really enjoyed focussing on our name writing and formation. This is where we all started to shine with our reading and writing. 

In Spring 2 we had a focus of 'Around the world' and our Talk for Writing texts were 'Handa's surprise' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. 

In Summer 1 we are focussing on Pirate Tom! We can't wait to explore floating and sinking and animals who live in water. We are also so excited for our trip to 'The Deep!'

In Phonics, we have started at the beginning of the Little Wandle programme and we have learnt our phase 2 single sounds. We started our reading groups in week 4 of Autumn 1. 

In Autumn 2, we have been learning the end of our phase 2 sounds and a few new digraphs. It has been tricky but we are doing really well. 

We started our Phase 3 phonics in Spring 1 and cemented our learning in Spring 2. We learnt all our digraphs and trigraphs as well as many new tricky words. Wed started our spelling books and we practice at the table every day. 

In Summer 1, we are starting phase 4!! We are doing so well. 

Mr Schofield loves story time but always finds it hard to choose a book! Everyday, just before assembly, we will take part in a book vote and count which book wins!

In reception, we focus on the gems 'Diamond','Ruby', 'Emerald' and 'Opal'. 

We love to take pictures and we put all of our learning onto the 'Tapestry' app. Please come and see Mr Schofield if you need any help accessing Tapestry.
