Welcome to Diamond Class!

Welcome to Diamond and Ruby Class, where learning is exciting, creative and full of discovery. In Reception, we provide a nurturing environment where children feel safe, confident and ready to learn through play and purposeful experiences.

Our day begins with Phonics, helping children develop early reading and writing skills, followed by Talk 4 Writing, where we explore stories through actions, talk and imagination. Throughout the day, children take part in regular Discovery Time, which allows them to explore learning through a mixture of continuous provision, child‑led activities, and focused adult‑led activities that support skills progression and each child’s learning journey.

We also enjoy snack and break time, Dough Disco to strengthen fine motor skills, and handwriting sessions. After lunch, we focus on Maths, followed by more Discovery Time and EYFS outdoor learning, where children develop physical skills, teamwork and independence. At the end of the day, we come together for Story Vote Time, assembly, and then it’s time to head home.

Reading is a key part of life in Diamond and Ruby Class. Children take part in three guided reading sessions each week and bring home a reading book matched to their level. In addition, each child chooses a reading for pleasure book weekly to share and enjoy at home, helping to build a love of books and stories. Once a week, children also take part in PSHE, Drop Everything and Read, and PE or Active Minutes, supporting wellbeing and physical development.

We are very proud of our learning and work hard in our blue Learning Journey books, where all of our learning is recorded. Children practise daily in their spelling books, and at the start of the year each child has a name writing book, which they progress out of as their confidence grows and move on to their handwriting book.
