Year 2 - Topaz Class

Welcome to Topaz Class!

Hello and welcome to our Year 2 class page.

A warm welcome back after the Christmas Holidays! Once again we have a very busy term ahead of us with lots of fun learning and exciting experiences prepared for the children. These include, swimming, Brazilian Drumming, Music Workshops, World Book Day and so much more. Please keep an eye on our class page to catch up with our super learning.

This half-term our class books will be:

This term in English, the children have created their own Magic Box poem, animal based information text and even a character description full of exciting vocabulary!

In Maths the children have been making super progress with their addition and subtraction skills and have utilised this to compare number sentences, complete column method calculations and solve missing number problems.

In Science we have been investigating and monitoring a range of habitats to explore how they meet the needs of the animals who inhabit the area and how this may differ throughout the changing seasons.

This term in Design and Technology the children have designed, built, tested and evaluated their own Ferris Wheel models including a functioning axel and and mechanism.

The pupils have also been developing a repertoire of festive songs both old and new, in preparation of our Christmas Carol Service on the last day of term!

Mr Commander's Class Page

Hello and welcome to our Year 2 class page.

We have had a great first few days back at school and it has been amazing to see all of the children happy and smiling back with their friends.

We are currently completing our first piece of writing which is based around our class model text of 'Around the World'. I can't wait to see the children's finished pieces of writing and I will share a couple of them on our class page.

In Maths, we are currently focussing on concreting our place value knowledge and working hard on looking at how we can manipulate our 10's and 1's to partition numbers in different ways.

In Science, we are currently investigating different habitats before moving onto looking at different materials and their uses.

In PE, we will be developing our gymnastic skills building on our prior learning before mastering new skills.

In Art, we are currently building up our skills and knowledge around mark-making to be able to begin creating our final piece for the half-term.

In History, we have looked at the origins of bonfire night and will be taking part in an immersive Great Fire of London workshop.

Our computing has begun by looking at the components that make up a computer system and how they all work together.

In Music, we have been using chime bars to perform our learning to the rest of the class.

Our current class book is Flat Stanley before we move onto Fantastic Mr Fox. It has been amazing to hear the children asking when we are reading the next part of the story!

I can't wait to share some more of the children's learning in the coming weeks.

Any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

Reading Books

The children will be sent home with two reading books. One of the books will be matched to their reading progression level and the other one will be purely to develop a love for reading.
