PE and Sport Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

In March 2013 the Government announced a major new funding initiative to support the delivery of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

This cross-government funding is provided by the Department for Education, with contributions from the Department of Health and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

The PE and sport premium is paid directly to primary schools and can only be spent on improving the quality of PE and sport provision for all pupils.

Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.

Hillcrest Early Years Academy received £31, 865 for the Academic Year 2021-22.

Purpose of the Funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.

Accountability

Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on how primary schools spend their PE and Sports Premium funding.

Additionally, schools must publish details of how they spend their PE and Sports Premium funding on their website. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding.  This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Hillcrest Early Years Academy.

How will we be spending the Sports Premium Funding?

We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all children.  We encourage collaboration and partnership working to enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.
