Reception - Diamond Class
Welcome to Diamond Class!
Hello and welcome to Miss McCutcheon's class page! Our class is called the Diamond Class!
We love learning through our independent discovery time. We love having creative provision to explore. We have Maths, Phonics, Construction and Small World choosing shelves to promote independence and choice. We have a sand and water area in our classroom. We also love our creative station and our focus activities on our tables. Our role play changes to what we are interested in. Right now it is a school as we love playing teachers! There is a calm corner to explore our feelings and a reading den to have some quiet reading time. We are very lucky that our outdoor classroom was completed last year, we love our new Diamond garden! Our EYFS outdoor area is also really fun to explore!
We have 3 class pet fish called Tommy, Ruby and Diamond!
In Autumn 1, we had lots of fun getting to know each other and exploring the topic 'All About Me'. We settled into our rules and routines and getting to know our new school environment.
In Autumn 2 we started our Talk 4 Writing with Supertato! We moved onto learning all about people who help us and then we started a 2 week Talk 4 writing block of the Gingerbread Man. We are currently retelling the story and we will be innovating the text next week.
In Phonics, we have started at the beginning of the Little Wandle programme and we have learnt our phase 2 single sounds. We started our reading groups in week 4 of Autumn 1.
In Autumn 2, we have been learning the end of our phase 2 sounds and a few new digraphs. It has been tricky but we are doing really well.
Every child in reception received their reading record at the start of Autumn 1. Please continue to bring these everyday!
We will have PE every week. Please check our class dojo for when that will be. I will send a reminder every week. This term, our PE day is Monday.
We have started Rhyme time to develop our vocabulary! Next term, we are going to start whole class dough disco, to strengthen our hands.
Miss McCutcheon loves story time but always finds it hard to choose a book! Everyday, just before assembly, we will take part in a book vote and count which book wins!
In reception, we focus on the gems 'Diamond', 'Ruby', 'Emerald and 'opal'. We earn a diamond for being independent and ruby for supporting our friends. We earn an Emerald for bouncing back and an opal for any good manners/respect.
We love to take pictures and we put all of our learning onto the 'Tapestry' app. Please come and see Miss McCutcheon if you need any help accessing Tapestry.
Miss McCutcheon also puts all of the class and school updates onto 'Class DOJO'.
